How to quarantine and not die while trying?

Updated: Apr 24, 2020

1. Workout

Do not waste this time! Get up from your couch, you will not have your dream body while sitting. It is important to keep moving. The more you quit your daily routine, the harder it will be to get back at it. Make quarantine time for a new you. Make new decisions, new activities, and be who you always wanted to.

Grab a yoga mat or even a towel, browse through youtube, start a routine, and play workout music.

For me workout music is really really important, it can sometimes determine how well I do the exercises and the effort I put into it. Nobody wants to workout with crapy music, that is why I have created a perfect Spotify Workout Playlist for you, so you don't have to worry about the motivational music behind your exercises. Some times YouTubers tend to use chill music for their routines in order for users to hear their instructions. I have listed my favorite youtube workouts, this way you can mute the video and use the Spotify Workout Playlist, don't worry about any instructions these YouTubers will do the exercises with you.

Favorite youtube workouts:

ABS:

BOOTY:

FULL BODY:

UPPER AND LOWER BODY:

Favorite youtube accounts for workout videos:

2. Read Books

Stucked at home with barely doing anything, browsing through Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Is it really worth it? Are you really satisfied by your infinite scrolling posts of people in quarantine, is it worth your time, are you that curious about what people are doing while quarantine? You should really appreciate this time given and do something you barely have time to do on a regular basis. Read, what a better activity, learn as much as you can. By the end of quarantine, you could be a better reader and smarter.

Books:

Maria Milo is a great example of a person who loves reading and has learned about quite important topics. She wrote a review about one of her favorite books about feminism and sustainability.

Author: Varias autoras

The book compiles a bunch of essays and interviews with experts on the fields of environmental crisis and women empowerment. Each of these professionals talks about entirely different spheres of life such as education, politics, economics, law, gender focus, the fashion industry, and family. This makes it possible for you to read in between pages. What’s most important, it makes it possible for you to focus only on the texts that talk about the field that interests you the most. The only thing I have left to say is that after reading it you will not be able to stop seeing the relationship between these two events. Your perspective about the environmental crisis, women’s empowerment, and how power relations work, will never be the same. I truly encourage you to read it..... Full Book Review.

Sapiens spans the whole of human history, from the very first humans to walk the earth to the radical – and sometimes devastating – breakthroughs of the Cognitive, Agricultural and Scientific Revolutions. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism? And what will our world be like in the millennia to come? Sapiens explains how did we conquer the world when millions of years ago we were just another living species on the planet.

We live in an interesting time. Everything is the best it’s ever been. We are freer, healthier, and wealthier than any people in human history. Yet, somehow everything seems to be irreparably and horribly f*cked. COVID-19 happened, the planet is warming, governments are failing, economies are collapsing, and everyone is perpetually offended on Twitter. At this moment in history, when we have access to technology, education, and communication our ancestors couldn’t even dream of, so many of us come back to an overriding feeling of hopelessness. This book takes us by the collar and challenges us to be more honest with ourselves and connected with the world in ways we probably haven’t considered before.

3. Watch Documentaries

Watch something worth your time. Instead of watching a comedy or a chick-flick watch a documentary. You can learn so much in so little. Documentaries can change your life. I have created an article specifically on three documentaries that changed my life.

Prepare your self some healthy snacks. What I enjoy the most are kale chips. Kale chips are not only delicious, super easy to make and they have low calories. Check out my Instagram post to learn how to make them, promise you won't regrate it.

Some of my favorite healthy low-calorie snacks are:

  • Chocolate quinoa

  • Churritos de amaranto

  • Dehydrated Jicama

  • Dehydrated betroot

  • Dehydrated Sweet Potato

  • Nopal enchilado

  • Chocolate obleas

You can get all of these snacks in Estado Natural, I love this store because you can buy in bulk, most of their products are organic, healthy and vegan. But the most important, they are eco-friendly, they do not sell any plastic containers. Because of COVID-19 you can order pickup or get them delivered to your house.

4. Selfcare

Every day we stay home we are saving lives, we take care of others. During these stressful times, we need to take care of ourselves as much as we take care of others. Inner peace and self-love must be a priority as well. There are many ways we can achieve self-care:

Spa

Start by taking a day off and plan a spa day. Fill the bathtub with warm water, add Epson salt and rose water; I make my own rose water and it is for sale on Evolet by Michelle. Turn a candle on, my favorite candle is from Zana Alquimia it has an amazing smell, made with vegan wax, and comes in sustainable packaging. Use a body scrub, I recommend Frank Body Coffe Scrub because it is all-natural and vegan.

Put a face mask on. Try making one with natural ingredients.

Mix honey and turmeric for soft and glow skin. (leave for 15min)

Mix honey and matcha for an antibacterial mask. (leave for 15min)

After cleansing apply apple vinegar or rose water on the face for deeper cleaning.

Meditate

Meditating is a great way of relaxing, it releases anxiety and stress. There are lots of tools to help you through your guided meditations, download Calm or Headspace on the AppStore for guided meditations. I really like Daniela Amkie's guided meditation on youtube.

Tea and other relaxing drinks:

Golden Milk has so many different benefits, it reduces inflammation, boosts the immune system, improves mood and memory, and promotes better sleep. I buy my golden milk from Estado Natural, it is an eco-friendly bulk store, I go there a lot. Matcha is perfect for the morning because it contains caffeine and it is an antioxidant, I buy my organic match at Estado Natural.

Personally, my favorite healthy vegan drink brand is Zana Alquimia. Their rose milk is spectacular (author's favorite), I also recommend the chai tea, which is magnificent.

TIP: If you really like tea's like green tea, black tea, and white tea but you can't enjoy them at night because of the high caffeine content it has, add a little bit of hot water to the herbs for about 30 to 45 sec, throw that water away. The first 45sec the water will absorb about 95% of the caffeine. After, just add water and enjoy.

5. Challenge Yourself

Remember when you said you would someday learn that skill you always aspire to have, well let me remind you it is time to work on it. Time is in your hands, you can decide whether to learn or always aspire. It would be absolutely incredible to finally learn to cook, do the splits, have abs, learn about art, go vegan, do yoga, workout, and read. There are about a million more things you can learn and do. Just remember, if it is not now, then when? When quarantine ends you will go back to your old routine, you will have same excuses, no time, and to much work; It is your last time to try and do something for your self, are you willing to do so?
